update from so cal

Hello Troops! You wanted it, and here it is, a long overdue post on the goings on in my exceedingly busy life. A lovely lady came to visit me for a long weekend, and it was much fun. Some highlights: an evening trip to La Jolla, California, near San Diego, for a nice dinner with some new friends. Sea lions on the sound barked and wailed and defended their high places on rocks. Only high tide could've placed them there. A movie premiere, for my first silver screen appearance. I'm in the process of acquiring said movie on DVD. Seeing yourself in action on screen is not entirely different from hearing yourself on tape. "I'm like that?" Lots of good food. The darling lady threw me a belated birthday party. WITH ICE CREAM CAKE!!! It was delightful. Pictures are forthcoming...

Now for the plugs hinted at by the image above. I present two versions of a song. You decide which is the best. The first, Trudy Dies by Palace Brothers is the original. The second Trudy Dies is by a musician named Scout Niblett. I prefer her version to the original. Speaking of Scout Niblett, lest you're under the wrong impression that she does not rock very hard, you should try another one on for size. Her song Miss My Lion is basically what I'd expect from a collaboration between The Smashing Pumpkins and Lucinda Williams. Of course, you should say which version you prefer, and if the comparison is accurate. It's hard to describe, and I'm looking for a good adjective phrase or two.
