After several days of going to bed around 3 am and waking up around 6 am, I wasn't anything if not completely exhausted. In great need of some relaxation, I found myself in Hollywood at a place I really like. The place,
Malo Taquiera and Cantina on Sunset Boulevard. While technically not in Hollywood, Malo (which is spanish for "bad") is a quiet little hole in the wall. It just so happens to be a hole in a pretty famous (in some circles) wall. If you're a fan of Elliot Smith, you'll recognize the wall from the cover of his album "Figure 8." Earlier in the night, I was at
Amoeba Records for a free in-store performance by
Neko Case promoting her new album
Fox Confessor Brings the Flood. It's a sweet/twangy album that I think is excellent. The performance itself was not ideal, as it took place in a large music store, and there were lots of people in attendance. She is a skilled performer with a really solid body of work, and you should give her a listen if you get the chance. That being said, I have a few really big projects to wrap up, and it's off for spring break. I can't wait.
