Food for thoughts

The neo-luddite week I mentioned earlier in this month was a crash-and-burn failure.  I'm pretty sure I didn't quite make it 24 hours from my post about renouncing all worldly possessions to the time I ordered a VGA cable to connect to my television to have a video conference with a friend.  I suppose that's a decent reason to recant, but I thought I'd make it longer.
Tonight I tried instituting a make-dinner-for-the-roommates policy, and that was a success.  I think we're going to take turns doing that once a week.  Part of this is selfish, part of it pragmatic, and part of it nice and social.

As hoped for, it led to some fun discussion, and it was a nice break from the routine.  I made chili in the old crock pot, and it was pretty good except for the fact that I forgot to add a bay leaf or two, and that really made a difference.  For you history buffs keeping track, the bay leaf  is the cause of our word baccalaureate.
