Last month recap

January was an exciting month in my household. One key result: my roommate got his own infographic seen here:

Here's the short version.

I got a text message on Sunday afternoon from my roommate saying he was going hiking in the snow capped peaks near my home. He mentioned that if he didn't return by Monday night, I was to call the authorities. Monday afternoon, I got a text message from him saying he was lost in the snow, and that I should proceed in calling the authorities. I did. 24 hours later, he was rescued. 50 people and 2 helicopters worked around the clock to get him safely back. It was an amazing effort, and I really wish every search and rescue attempt ended as well. If you're considering a charity to donate to, look into your local S&R. Most of the people searching for my roommate did so without compensation, most even took time off from their regular jobs to be a part of it. It should be noted that he is an experienced hiker, and did suffer some frostbite or frost nip. At one point, he heard a helicopter, jumped out of his sleeping bag in his tent and ran barefoot through the snow. That effort did not result in an immediate rescue.
