day 3 on the road

Day three was the shortest day of driving, and we were ready for the break. We had the opportunity to stay with the parents of a former co-worker of mine in Winslow, AZ. The town is most famous for being mentioned in the Eagles' song "Take it easy." They even have a park called Standing On The Corner Park. We got a tour and got to hear about an accident that burned the building down. The town of Winslow, AZ (it's no understatement to say ALL of them) love the Eagles. It's even more serious than Athenians and REM.

It rained there, too. Which it also never does, I'm told. As far as I can tell, it rains more in Arizona than it does in Georgia because it's rained every time I've been to Arizona, but only about 1/15th of the times I've been in Georgia.

We were treated by our hosts to both the biggest Mexican dinner I've ever had as well as the biggest breakfast I've also had in a long long time. The copious amounts of food made my lovely assistant fall ill. I was worried he had typhoid and we'd have to leave him Oregon Trail style. Because of his delicate constitution, it turns out, he was ill due to over indulgence. But he survived as he usually does. If he didn't, that would've complicated things considerably. How do you dispose of a corpse on the road? At least in Georgia, I could've pitched the body behind a tree or in a ditch. The nearest big ditch was at least an hour away. You'll hear more about that tomorrow.

On day three, the doggie was still sleeping about 20 hours a day. We slept in what appeared to be the largest house in Winslow that night, and off we went to begin day 4.
